So, What Does The Tire Size Mean?

The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. So, a P225/65 R17 tire has a width of 225 millimeters. The second number is the ratio of sidewall to width. So, that means that a P225/65 R17 tire has a sidewall height of 146mm (225 * 0.65).

The letter indicates a tire’s performance. R is a more-or-less standard, while Y or Z-rated tires are ultra-high performance.

The final and most familiar figure is the tire’s internal diameter in inches. So, a P215/65 R15 tire has a 15-inch internal diameter.
