Exact Nissan Frontier Bolt Pattern – All Years (Diagram & Specs)

All Nissan Frontiers made between 2001 and 2022 use bolt pattern of 6×4.5 (6×114.3mm) and the lug nuts have a thread size of M12 x 1.25. All Nissan Frontier generations in this year range use 6 lug nuts that should be torqued down to 98 ft lbs and it features a center bore of 2.6 inches (66.1mm).

The information that we just explained, while very useful, doesn’t tell you exactly everything that you may need to know. There is a whole lot more information to learn about the Nissan Frontier bolt pattern. So, we took the time to outline the bolt pattern more elaborately for each generation below. Also, we will provide some links to the exact lug nuts you can use for the Nissan Frontier. After that, we will detail the rim and tire sizes for each engine and trim configuration.

Nissan Frontier Wheel Fitment Guide

If you plan on doing any wheel or tire work on your truck, then you are going to need to know more than just the Nissan Frontier bolt pattern. Things like the center bore diameter, thread size, and tightening torque are crucial factors and may vary from model to model.

There are various trim levels of this truck, so it’s good to know which is which so you buy the right parts.

Check out this chart below that shows the various bolt pattern information for the Nissan Frontier.

1998 – 2002

The first generation Nissan Frontier has 3 engine configurations. The 2.4L 2WD version uses 215/65R15 tires and 6Jx15 ET18 rims. If you have the more capable 2.4L 4WD version, however, then it uses 235/70R15 or 265/70R15 tires mounted to 7JJx15 ET20 or 7Jx15 ET20 rims. The most powerful version of the Frontier for this generation is equipped with a 3.3L 170 HP V6 engine. This version uses either 235/70R15, 265/70R15, or 255/65R16 tires mounted on 7JJx15 ET20, 7Jx15 ET20, or 7JJx16 ET40 rims respectively.

The second generation Nissan Frontier also has 3 engine configurations. The 2.4L 2WD version uses 225/70R15 tires and 7Jx15 ET20 rims. The 3.3L 2WD version uses either 265/70R15, 255/65R16, 265/65R17 tires mounted to either a 7Jx15 ET20, 7JJx16 ET40, or 8Jx17 ET40 rim. The 3.3L 4WD version of the Nissan Frontier for this generation either 265/70R15, 265/70R16, 265/65R17 tires mounted on 7Jx15 ET20, 7JJx16 ET40, or 8Jx17 ET40 rims.

The third generation Nissan Frontier has 2 engine configurations. The 2.5L 154 HP version of the Nissan Frontier uses a 235/75R15 tire and has a rim sizes of 6.5Jx15 ET206. The 4.0L 265 HP V6 is a different story. It uses either 265/70R16, 265/75R16, 265/65R17 tires mounted to 7Jx16 ET30, 7Jx16 ET30, or 7.5Jx17 ET30 rims, respectively.

What Does The Tire Size Mean?

The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. So, a P265/65 R18 tire has a width of 265 millimeters. The second number is the ratio of sidewall to width. So, that means that a P265/65 R18 tire has a sidewall height of 1172mm (265 * 0.65).

The letter in the middle is for the tire’s performance letter. R is more-or-less standard, while Y or Z-rated tires are ultra high performance.

The final and most familiar figure is the tire’s internal diameter in inches. So, a P265/65 R18 tire has an 18 inch internal diameter.

Its not exactly one size fits all, but generally speaking, a rim can take a tire with a slightly different width than the original tire had. There is much more room when it comes to the sidewall ratio, as that figure can vary somewhat widely and still be compatible with a given rim.

Properly Tightening The Bolts

Nissan Frontiers use 6 lug nuts. As with any other truck, these nuts have to be tightened in a specific, crisscross pattern when you mount the wheel to the truck again. This information is commonly found in the vehicle’s user manual, but for the sake of convenience, we went ahead and put it here for you.

Tightening your lug nuts properly is super important. If they’re not tight enough, the wheel fall off while you are driving, or at the very least, cause major vibrations. If you over-tighten the wheel, it can make it hard to get off next time and it can damage components.

The first step is to tighten the lugs with a hand wrench first. Wait! Don’t tighten the lug nuts down all the way yet. If you do, it will be hard to get each lug torqued down to its proper level. So, just tighten each one of your lugs about half way.

After that, tighten each one of them (in a crisscross pattern) to the proper ft lbs. The Nissan Frontier uses lug nut tightening force of 99.5 ft lbs.

Make sure to check your lugs nuts. Don’t just trust it! Drive for about 30 miles and then check your lug nuts. If are loose, go ahead and tighten them up again and drive another 30 miles. If you do that and check them again and a single one of them is loose, it means your wheel is warped. A warped wheel is dangerous to drive on, so you are going to need to get that replaced.

When To Rotate Nissan Frontier Tires

Tires last around 75,000 miles or around 5 years. After this amount of time, they need to be replaced, even if they are low miles. This is because over time, a tire will slowly rot. So, even if there are not a lot of miles on it, tires need to be replaced after 5 years or so. There are cases in which this can happen a lot sooner, and there are certainly times where it can happen a lot later, but eventually you are going to need to replace your tires.

You need to think about rotating your tires long before they wear out. In fact, rotating your tires at regular intervals will make them last a lot longer than they would otherwise. For the Nissan Frontier, it’s best to rotate your tires every 7,500 miles. Rotating your tires is simple. All you have to do is move the front tires to the back and move the back tires to the front, but swap the left and right sides while you are doing it.

Rotating your tires is just another example of why it’s important to know your Nissan Frontier lug pattern. Another important thing to consider is the fact that when you are rotating your tires, you will have access to all the inner workings of each one of your wheels.

This gives you time to take a look at your brakes and other things that are usually obscured by the wheel’s presence.

Conclusion

Usually a vehicle has several different bolt patterns to keep up with, but that’s not the case with the Frontier.

All Nissan Frontiers have the same 6×4.5 (6×114.3mm) bolt pattern and use 6 lug nuts have a thread size of M12 x 1.25. All Nissan Frontier generations need their lug nuts tightened down to 98 ft lbs, and they all have a center bore of 2.6 inches (66.1mm).

We hope this article helped you learn more about the Nissan Frontier bolt pattern. Thanks for reading!
