Properly Tightening The Bolts

All Chevy Equinox models use 5 lug nuts These lug nuts have to be tightened in a specific criss-cross pattern. They also have to be tightened properly to a specific torque level. This information, of course, can be found in the Chevy Equinox user manual, but we left it here for you for convenience.

First, tighten your lug nuts with a hand wrench. Don’t tighten them all the way. If you do, then you won’t be able to get them all tightened properly. Also, doing that could be dangerous as it could cause serious vibration and alignment issues.

After you do that, you need to go over each one in a criss-cross pattern and tighten it to the proper torque level. The Chevy Equinox lug nuts need to be tightened to 100 ft lbs.

Make sure to do a lug nut loosening test. The easiest way to do so is to drive for around 30 miles and then check the torque on all of your lug nuts.

If you find that any of them come loose, don’t be alarmed just yet. Tighten them again and repeat the test. If after the second test your lug nuts are loose again, then you are going to have to replace the rim as its more than likely warped.

Rotating Chevy Equinox Tires

Tires will last about 75 thousand miles or so. This depends on many variables, so your mileage will literally vary. Time also plays an important part, too. This is because the tires will eventually start to fall apart on their own.

Eventually, however, air still gets to the tires and they begin to fall apart. So, check for small cracks and other tell-tell signs of dry-rotting rubber.

Rotating your tires is something that should happen way before your tires need to be replaced. In fact, rotating your tires regularly is the most effective thing that you can do to extend the life of your tires.

For the Chevy Equinox, its best to rotate its tires about every 7,500 miles. The good news is that rotating your tires is really easy to do. Simply move the tires from the left side of the car to the right side of the car while also swapping them front to back.
